So this Sept I started taking my first Lapidary class at my local community college, where I am also taking the Silversmithing classes. I received an old lapidary machine last year and have been enjoying learning on my own but I knew I needed to bump that up in order to incorporate it into my silver-work. Once again, I have joyfully found another craft that is very rewarding and I'm addicted!! My class is a wonderful 4 hours on Fridays and it's completely okay that I will ended up soaked in water or my fingers a bit numb or even oily from cutting slabs. It's all worth it when the end result is a beautiful polished stone in my hand!
This class is helping me learn so much about the stones I not only cut, but also the stones I've chosen to use in my silver work. I see them differently now. I also eye pebbles on the road a bit different now too! What will it look like if I high polish it?? Hmmmm....
There's another class next semester too and I plan on being in that one as well so I can learn all I can about this fun craft!
If you'd like to see work-in-progress photos of my work in lapidary (and silver work) just head over to my Instagram page, @mothersonthemountainjewelry . I post a lot of pictures of what's happening in my Studio!
