I am back in jewelry class! I really, really love it. I do know I am fortunate to have a class take. So many jewelers I talk to do not have such resources near them.
Besides having an amazing studio right there to "play" in, there's all the other classmate that make it so fun. The ideas and inspirations that fly around is so cool! If one of us gets stuck, between the teacher an the advanced students, we all learn new tips and tricks each class!
This class is called Mechanisms. All about hinges and clasps, connections, closure etc. My main thing I'd like to learn is hinges. And making a box with a hinge. Goals! LOL! Of course in class I do other items. Like getting more Stamped Silver Flower earrings made up!
I also needed to challenge myself by learning how to size down a ring I made a while ago. Math and I do not always see eye to eye! LOL! My teacher got me on the right track and it worked!
I am also taking a begining Lapidary class!! I got paid with a lapidary unit, 10 yr old combo unit, and really don't know what to do on it. So I turned back to silversmithing until I had the time and maybe a way to learn more about it. Then my jewelry teacher announced we were having a lapidary class! I jumped on it, along with my son, who's very interested in lapidary! The first project was to drill a hole in a pebble and stick a tube of metal in it and flare it around. Just this little project send any inspirational ideas in my head!
My teacher took us on a tour of the lapidary equipment and tools. The saws are huge and impressive! Wow~ more to come later :)
